Resume

Antonieta Rivas Mercado fue una mujer adelantada a su época. Nacida en una familia acaudalada de la Ciudad de México en 1900, Antonieta desafió las expectativas sociales al priorizar la promoción cultural y artística por encima del matrimonio. Antonieta fue escritora, traductora, actriz y promotora artística que jugó un papel fundamental en la escena cultural de su país a comienzos del siglo XX. Las presiones familiares y problemas de salud mental marcaron su corta vida, pero su impronta se hace sentir en la formación de la cultura mexicana del siglo XX y los experimentos de la vanguardia.

Antonieta Rivas Mercado was a woman ahead of her time. Born into a wealthy family in Mexico City in the early 1900s, she defied societal expectations by pursuing a career in the arts. Antonieta a writer, a poet, and an art promoter who played a significant role in the cultural scene of Mexico in the early 20th century. Her was marked by tragedy, but her legacy lives on through her work and the she had on the artistic community.

About Me

I am a higher ed professor with a passion for writing and storytelling. I have a Ph.D. in Spanish and have taught at several higher education in the US and Colombia. In addition to my teaching, I conduct research on contemporary Colombian and Latin American Literature. I am also a fiction writer. I have published short stories in several Latin American journals and sites. I am in the process of publishing my first novel Pesca en un cráter lunar and finalizing a manuscript of a second novel.

I'm originally from Barrancabermeja, Colombia, but I currently live in Minnesota, USA.
